The help text doesn't give any indication and I haven't seen any evidence anywhere of other references to this matter. So as things stand, does that mean that no-one has been using the Reading Plans for the past 10 months????

RE: Reading Plan
Chillman (15/05/2008)Also posting to say that the bug in the "Manage Readings Plans" which makes it unusable is STILL unfixed after 10 months. Any news on when this might be dealt with?
David

This isn't actually a bug in Manage Reading Plans even though it looks like it.

"Reading plan" events are unlike other lectionary events in that they are not directly linked to dates; they are only for use in reading plans. To distinguish between reading plan events and other types of event, there is a checkbox in the Edit Event dialog "This event is part of a reading plan". Only events that are so marked appear in the dialog in Manage Reading Plans, when you want to add event.

So the bug, which is actually a content bug, is that:

The reading plan events are not marked as such.

Several other events which are not readings plans, are marked as such.

We need to issue a content update to fix this. In the meantime, you can mark events as reading plans manually so it is not quite unusable, just long-winded.

In the Edit Lectionary dialog, reading plan events are listed as the last events, but before Years B and C.

Tim

RE: Reading Plan

Mike,

It sounds to me as if the lectionary planner does most of what you want to do, although I agree that the way you export it could be improved.

Also posting to say that the bug in the "Manage Readings Plans" which makes it unusable is STILL unfixed after 10 months. Any news on when this might be dealt with?

RE: Reading Plan

This reading planner is a big downer! :w00t:
Currently I put readings and themes in an Excel spreadsheet and email them out to people a month before the event and then project the readings using a video projector in a service.
I wanted to use vl in a similar way:

There should be a simple way to take the lectionary readings in a tabular view for all the services and then to quickly edit them ready to be inserted into services or, alternatively to be cut/pasted or exported so they can be sent to people.
Then later I would export the VL as a webpage and project it using my laptop.

IF VL want to engage with people like me on the edge of worship, where liturgical and contemporary worship meet, this kind of thing is essential as typically we adapt many of the readings of the lectionary:

We only use the lectionary readings for some services, and for many others we use one lectionary and one other reading. So editing quickly is essential.

Mike

RE: Reading Plan

There is a long-winded get around...

- Open the lectionary planner.
- On the left hand column, select the date you want for the first week of the series.
- On the right hand column, you will see the readings already selected for that day.
- For each reading, right-click and select "Edit item"
- Where it says "Content Item", click on the box to the right which says "Browse"
- On the browser screen, search for the reading you want (eg Ephesians 1:3-10 or whatever)
- Click on the reading you want and then click on "Select item". This will change the lectionary planner accordingly.
- Do this for every reading on every day in question

This is a bit of a long winded way round, but it gets you there in the end.

Hope this helps.

RE: Reading Plan

Hi

I did some testing for VL Live, so I've done a bit with the "Manage Readings Plans".

BUT

It doesn't look like it is working. Having set up your readings plan, you should be able to click on "edit" and then you will see the Readings Plan title and a list (empty!) called "events" - which will be (eventually) the different weeks in the series. From this screen, you can click on "Add" and this is where it all goes a bit wonky. Instead of being able to search for lectionary "events" which you can add to your reading plan, all I get are 4 rather weird events, namely:

Saturday after Epiphany 3
Saturday after 3rd before Lent
Thursday after Easter 7
Friday after Trinity 19

Two things to say:

a) This is a bug that needs fixing

b) Can something be done about the help text? The User Guide that comes with VL Live is almost of no help at all when it comes to Readings Plans, so the help text really needs to clear and detailed.

Sorry that I can't be of any more help at the moment.

Reading Plan

Help buttons don't work so am getting really frustrated trying to insert a series on Ephesians.
